MORE than the Z32, the WRX auto is much much much slower than the 5 speed especially stock. A stock Auto WRX would be a good race for an NA Z. The stock 5 speeds are getting low 14s with really good drivers dumping the clutch and mid-high 14 1/4 for an easy launch... stock that is. Once you redo the exhaust taking out the 3 cats and putting 1 high flow cat, and a boost controller, they run mid to low 13s. They can compete with lightly modified TTs in the 1/4, but probably slightly edge out a stock ZTT on the highway. At that point, the stock turbos are not good for much more and are outa air. The good news though (for WRX owners) is a turbo swap is very cheap and easy. Most are good for mid 12s on street tires, equal to most stage 4-5 ZTTs with drag radials and stock turbos in the 1/4, but most aftermarket setups are still only a lil faster than a StageIII ZTT high speed runs on the highway. Their engines are bulletproof, but the trannies aren't (just like the Z32 synchro issues). If it's wet, a lil dirt on the road, or hitting the turns, NA or ZTTs need not bother letting a WRX know you've seen him unless you're really modified to turn, or there's a real driver missmatch. They're completely different classes of cars. WRX+Auto+Stock with it's 3 cats = SLLLOOOOOWWWW (straight line)... NAZ catagory SLOW =). I still have a stock 2+2 Z32 to drive around and compare even though I sold the 2 TTZs don't forget!
